New Delhi, India – In light of the distressing situation faced by Indian nationals amidst the escalating tensions between Russia and Ukraine, the Indian government has initiated proactive measures to ensure their safe repatriation. These individuals, deceived into unintended military service, have found themselves embroiled in a conflict far removed from their initial expectations.
Deceptive Recruitment Tactics
Emerging reports shed light on how numerous Indians were misled into joining the Russian military, falsely promised non-combat roles. Accounts reveal that these individuals fell victim to deceptive translations of official documents and unwittingly underwent military training.
Government’s Vigilant Response
Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, affirmed the government’s awareness of the situation and its swift actions. “We are cognizant that several Indian nationals have been coerced into support positions within the Russian army. The Indian Embassy has been actively liaising with Russian authorities to expedite their safe release,” Jaiswal stated. He further urged Indian citizens to exercise caution and refrain from involvement in the ongoing conflict.
Heartfelt Appeals for Assistance
Families of the affected individuals, including Sufiyan’s from Hyderabad, have fervently appealed to the Indian government for assistance. With the support of AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, these families are passionately advocating for the return of their loved ones. Calls for stringent action against fraudulent agents, such as Faisal Khan associated with ‘Baba Vlogs’ on YouTube, have resonated strongly.
Imran, Sufiyan’s brother, recounted the harrowing ordeal, emphasizing the deceitful practices that led his brother and others into involuntary military service.
Urgency in Seeking Help
With reports indicating that nine Indian nationals are currently in Ukraine facing imminent danger and injury, the pleas for assistance from their families have intensified. Mr. Owaisi has directly appealed to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, urging prompt government intervention for their repatriation.
Continuing Conflict
Now in its third year, the Russia-Ukraine conflict persists, drawing innocent lives into its vortex of violence. This underscores the urgent need for peaceful resolutions and international cooperation to prevent further civilian entanglement.
Looking Ahead
As the Indian government navigates this complex diplomatic landscape, the affected families remain hopeful for a swift resolution that ensures the safe return of their loved ones.
