BJP Reveals Second List of 72 Lok Sabha Candidates, Featuring Veteran MPs and Fresh Faces

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced its second list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections this evening after losing one seat at the last minute in Bihar. The list of 72 names includes many veteran MPs including Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, election debutant Piyush Goyal and Anurag Singh Thakur. Another newcomer is Manohar Lal Khattar, who was removed from the post of Haryana Chief Minister yesterday. Two other former chief ministers, Trivendra Singh Rawat and Basavaraj Bommai, were also fielded.

said last-minute negotiations were being held for the Bihar seat. 2 seats in Delhi, 7 seats in Gujarat, 6 seats in Haryana, 2 seats in Himachal Pradesh, 20 seats in Karnataka, 5 seats in Madhya Pradesh, 20 seats in Maharashtra and 6 seats in Telangana. Candidates have been announced for one seat in India. 2 seats in Tripura and Uttarakhand. Candidates for Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu have also been announced.

In Delhi, BJP has fielded two new candidates, Harsh Malhotra for East Delhi and Yogendra Chandria for North West Delhi.

In Karnataka, the only southern state where the party has significant influence, the BJP, which suffered a crushing defeat in the recent parliamentary elections, is fielding about 10 newcomers.

Among the familiar faces will be Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, who will be contesting from Dharwad, while BY Raghavendra, son of former state chief minister BS Yediyurappa, will contest from Shimoga. In southern Bengaluru, Bharatiya Janata Party youth wing chief Tejasvi Surya is seeking re-election. Yaduveer Krishnadatta Wadiyar, a member of the old Mysore royal family, has replaced Pratap Sinha as the candidate for the Mysore seat.

Maharashtra, the BJP has fielded Nitin Gadkari, Piyush Goyal and former state minister Pankaja Munde. The party has announced candidates for 20 of the state’s 48 seats. After Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra will send the maximum number of MPs to Parliament. Nitin Gadkari was appointed from Nagpur, the stronghold of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, the ideological leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The eight new arrivals include Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal from north Mumbai and Pankaja Munde from Beed. All Union ministers from Maharashtra have been reinstated.

In Uttarakhand, BJP chief spokesperson and Rajya Sabha member Anil Baluni was elected from Garhwal.

Earlier
this month, the BJP announced its first list of more than 190 candidates for the parliamentary elections scheduled for this summer. In this list, the Bharatiya Janata Party had announced its main candidates. Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi (for the third time), Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh from Gandhinagar and Lucknow. A total of 34 federal ministers were named on the list.
