AAP Releases List of Lok Sabha Candidates for Delhi and Haryana; Includes Somnath Bharti

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) made significant strides in its electoral preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections by announcing its candidates for both Delhi and Haryana. This announcement follows the recent seat-sharing agreement between AAP and the Congress, solidifying their electoral strategy.

Kuldeep Kumar, an incumbent MLA from Kondli, emerges as AAP’s choice for the East Delhi constituency, presently represented by BJP’s Gautam Gambhir. Somnath Bharti, renowned MLA from Malviya Nagar and Vice-Chairman of the Delhi Jal Board, will contest from New Delhi, a seat currently held by BJP’s Meenakshi Lekhi.

In a strategic move, Mahabal Mishra, a former Congress MP from West Delhi, will contest from the same constituency under the AAP banner. With a sizable Purvanchali electorate, Mishra seeks to make significant inroads, having previously contested the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections unsuccessfully against BJP’s Parvesh Verma.

AAP Releases List of Lok Sabha CandidatesSahi Ram Pahalwan, MLA from Tughlakabad, is AAP’s candidate for the South Delhi seat, currently held by BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri. Meanwhile, as per the seat-sharing arrangement, Congress will contest North East Delhi, North West, and Chandni Chowk seats, all currently under BJP’s representation in the Lok Sabha.

Turning to Haryana, AAP has nominated former Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Gupta for the Kurukshetra constituency. Earlier, AAP had revealed its candidates for Assam and Gujarat, signaling a comprehensive electoral strategy.

This cooperative effort between AAP and Congress mirrors a similar proposal extended by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, which ultimately faltered. In 2019, BJP swept all seven seats in Delhi, marking a significant setback for AAP and Congress, who collectively garnered less than half of the total votes cast.

Beyond Delhi, Congress has also forged alliances with other parties, such as the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state. Under this arrangement, Congress will contest 17 seats, while SP and its allies will contest the remaining 63 out of the 80 Lok Sabha seats from Uttar Pradesh.
