Indian National Killed, Two Injured as Missile from Lebanon Strikes Near Israel’s Border; All Victims Hail from Kerala

In a tragic incident, an Indian national from Kerala lost his life while two others sustained injuries on Monday after an anti-tank missile fired from Lebanon struck an orchard near Israel’s northern border community of Margaliot. The victims, identified as Patnibin Maxwell, Bush Joseph George, and Paul Melvin, were all from Kerala.

According to Zaki Heller, spokesperson for rescue services Magen David Adom (MDA), the missile hit a plantation in Margaliot, a moshav in the Galilee region of northern Israel, around 11 am on Monday. Maxwell tragically succumbed to his injuries, while George and Melvin were rushed to hospitals for treatment.

George underwent surgery at Beilinson hospital in Petah Tikva for injuries to his face and body, with reports indicating a positive recovery and stable condition. Melvin, who sustained minor injuries, is currently hospitalized at Ziv Hospital in Safed.

The attack, believed to be carried out by the Shi’ite Hezbollah faction in Lebanon, is part of ongoing hostilities between the two regions, with Hezbollah launching rockets, missiles, and drones at northern Israel daily since October 8 in support of Hamas amid the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

In response to the attack, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) shelled the launch site with artillery and targeted a Hezbollah compound in southern Lebanon, where members of the group were gathered. Despite these measures, Hezbollah’s continued assaults on Israel’s northern communities have resulted in casualties on both sides, with seven civilians and 10 IDF soldiers losing their lives.

The skirmishes have intensified tensions in the region, with Hezbollah claiming numerous casualties among its members. However, the conflict shows no signs of abating, as both sides remain entrenched in their positions, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis and endangering civilian lives.

As the situation unfolds, the international community watches with concern, urging restraint and diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and restore peace in the region. However, with Hezbollah’s continued aggression and Israel’s steadfast response, the prospects for a swift resolution remain uncertain.
