NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a series of dairy product factories as part of his participation in the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
During his address, PM Modi praised the remarkable growth of the initiative initiated by villagers in Gujarat five decades ago, likening it to a seed blossoming into a sturdy banyan tree. He extended his congratulations to all individuals involved in the movement and recognized the pivotal role of milch animals in its success.
Emphasizing the pivotal role of women in the dairy sector, PM Modi stressed the importance of enhancing the financial status of every woman in India to drive the nation towards progress. He highlighted ongoing government efforts to economically empower women, citing the provision of substantial assistance exceeding Rs 30 lakh crore to approximately 70 percent of women under the Mudra Yojana.
PM Modi reiterated the steadfast commitment of the central government to prioritize farmer welfare, underscoring extensive efforts to support farmers, including the construction of over 60,000 Amrit Sarovars nationwide. He emphasized that this initiative aims not only to benefit farmers but also to bolster the rural economy.
Expressing admiration for Amul, PM Modi remarked, “After India’s independence, numerous brands emerged in the country. However, none match the stature of Amul, which has become synonymous with trust, development, public participation, farmer empowerment, and inspiration for Aatmanirbhar Bharat.”
Highlighting India’s robust dairy sector growth at 6 percent annually, surpassing the global dairy sector’s 2 percent growth, PM Modi set the ambitious goal for Amul to become the world’s largest dairy company, assuring full government support.
Over the past two decades, the number of milk corporations in Gujarat has risen from 12 to 23, with the dairy industry engaging over 36 lakh individuals, including 11 lakh women, and operating 3,300 milk houses solely managed by women.
PM Modi received gifts during the celebrations at Narendra Modi Stadium, with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also in attendance. The event showcased cultural programs with significant farmer participation from various parts of the state.
Additionally, PM Modi unveiled 50 electric buses worth Rs 840 crore and components of the Tapi Purification Project, along with projects of DREAM City Limited, costing Rs 597 crore and Rs 49 crore, respectively.
