TDP MP Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu( New Aviation Minister) has assumed the role of Minister of Civil Aviation, pledging to prioritize the review of airfares and ensure “ease of flying” for all citizens, particularly the economically disadvantaged. Naidu, who represents Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam constituency, emphasized that his administration will focus on making air travel accessible to the “last mile” and the poorest segments of society.
Addressing Airfare Fluctuations
In his inaugural address, Naidu highlighted the significant concern over airfare fluctuations, a trend that has persisted since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. “We have seen ticket price fluctuations right from the time of Covid-19 when air travel took a huge hit. Airfares have been fluctuating and have not stabilized since then. I have observed this also as a passenger. This is a cause of concern,” Naidu stated. To tackle this issue, he announced plans to convene a review meeting with airline executives and ministry officials, aiming to stabilize ticket prices and make air travel more predictable and affordable.
Policy Focus: Ease of Flying
Naidu underscored that the “ease of flying” for the common man will be central to his policy-making. He stressed the importance of ensuring that air travel is not just a privilege for the affluent but a feasible option for everyone. “The common man will be at the core of policy making,” he declared, reflecting his commitment to democratizing air travel in India.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation is set to finalize a 100-day action plan to kickstart these initiatives. This plan will include a comprehensive strategy to address immediate concerns and lay the groundwork for long-term improvements in the aviation sector.
Continuing and Expanding Initiatives
Building on the efforts of his predecessors, Naidu expressed his intent to further the regional connectivity scheme (RCS). The RCS was initially launched during the tenure of his party colleague, Gajapathi Raju, with the aim of enhancing connectivity to tier-2 and tier-3 cities. Naidu plans to expand this initiative, ensuring that smaller cities and towns are well-connected by air. This expansion is crucial for integrating more regions into the national and global economy, fostering development and mobility.
Another significant project Naidu aims to advance is the “digi-yatra” initiative. This program, which involves the use of biometric boarding passes at airports, is designed to streamline the passenger experience and enhance security. Naidu announced plans to implement this technology at all airports across the country, making the boarding process faster and more efficient for travelers.
Infrastructure Developments
Naidu also highlighted key infrastructure projects that will be his focus. He committed to ensuring the completion of the new Bhogapuram airport in north Andhra Pradesh by December 2025. This project is seen as a critical development for the region, expected to boost local economy and connectivity.
In addition to Bhogapuram, Naidu emphasized the importance of improving air connectivity to Amravati, the upcoming capital of Andhra Pradesh. Strengthening Amravati’s air links is vital for supporting its growth as a new administrative and commercial hub.

Efforts will also be made to enhance international connectivity for airports in Tirupati and Vijayawada. Naidu stressed the importance of establishing more international routes to and from these cities, facilitating easier access for travelers and promoting tourism and business opportunities.
